A show of a lifetime, filled with laughter, dancing, violence and four guys “walking like men”, and singing notes I couldn’t dream of reaching. Jersey Boys is filled with entertainment and amazing actors. On Wednesday October 28th, twenty-three St. Thomas Aquinas students had the privilege to go back in time to the years of the Four Seasons. “Jersey Boys” is the entertainment that hit the Toronto Centre of the Arts two years ago and the seats are still full!
“It was a great show! It was loads of fun getting together with everyone to see a show like that,” was the response from Grade 12 student, Colleen Redmond who attended the show. Songs included in the show are the favourites “Oh What a Night!” “Sherry” “Walk Like a Man” and many more! Julie McCann, a student who also attended the show said “The set was amazing, but I could have done without the hanging screens. I just thought they were distracting and unnecessary, other than that, the show was awesome.” What else was wrong with the show? Well I could tell you that it was too entertaining, but what’s wrong with that? Young students were introduced to music from the sixties, introduced to a culture, and those Jersey accents, are priceless.
Some people may say the profanity is a bit much, but they do warn you (yea, they actually do) with a sign just outside the doors that leads you to the stage. “This show has authentic Jersey profanity” the sign warns audience members as they walk by ready to see the show. Sure, there is a lot of profanity in the show, but that’s just how people in Jersey lived in the 60’s.
Jersey Boys is the story of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, from their beginning to end when they were inducted in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1990. Audiences are experiencing New Jersey in the 60s, with the fun, the glamour, and the violence that comes along with Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons. The show is filled with incredible male leads including: Jeff Madden, who lived in Toronto, playing the one and only Frankie Valli and Daniel Robert Sullivan who plays the free spending, debt ridden Tommy DeVito. Michael Lomenda plays Nick Massi, who we see always annoyed with Tommy DeVito and Quinn Robert Sullivan, who plays Bob Gaudio, the one who made the trio a quartet and gave the Four Seasons their first hits “Sherry” and “Walk Like a Man”. The cast is fun filled and energetic and bound to get a standing ovation after every show. The 19 actors in the Broadway inspired smash include 16 males and 3 very talented females. They make you laugh, cry and sing your hearts out. What more can an audience ask for?
Audiences everywhere are talking about Jersey Boys and the fun-filled Jersey inspired music from the Four Seasons. You will be jumping off your seats asking for more. Go see Jersey Boys and you will be walking home, singing and dancing to the tunes of Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons. You’ll be dancing for days and think “Oh What a Night indeed.”
