On December 10th 2009 STA’s Student Council had their annual Christmas Formal. Grade 10, 11 and 12 students ditched their school uniforms for fancy dresses and nice ties.   They arrived at Le Dome Banquet hall ready to dance. As they walked in, they were greeted by christmas trees and dangling chandeliers  filling them with the spirit of the season. Every year students anticipate dressing up and the dates most commonly associated with the Christmas Formal and this year was no exception.  Even though the guest list this year was smaller than usual, Formal was still an excellent night out.

 “Formal was good and I thought it was better than last year. I really enjoyed the games, although the dancing could have been a bit better,” stated a grade 12 student who attended.

“I thought formal was really fun and I will definitely go next year,” said a grade 11 student.

 After supper all the students gathered together to play a few games such as duck-duck goose; everyone was laughing and having a great time and it was a fantastic way of bringing everyone together.

The attendance was lower than other years, unfortunately not very many grade 12s attended this year’s Christmas Formal.  A grade 12 student who did NOT attend formal said, “I wasn’t interested in spending the money, not just for the ticket, but for a dress as well.”

 Many grade 12’s  are more interested in prom.  Another grade 12 who didn’t attend said “Just because I didnt go to formal, doesnt mean I am not going to prom.”

In the past it was traditional for the two senior grades to attend, but this year the grade 10’s were invited and this created a more diverse atmosphere; it provided an opportunity for the grade 10’s to interact with the older grades.

I attended formal myself and I found it very enjoyable. Hopefully in future years  students will be able to enjoy formal as much as the years before them.
