Canadians Have Never Felt So Good
By Jessica G | February 18th, 2010 | Category: Feature News |“Canada you can now take a deep breath. Alex Bilodeau just won Canada its first Gold Medal on Home Soil.”
On Sunday February 14th, he made Canadian History, and I think I speak for everyone when I say we are proud of Alex, and we are proud to be Canadian.
It never happened in Montreal in 1976, and it didn’t happen in Calgary in 1988, but now in the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver, Canada has won its first gold medal on home soil thanks to Alex Bilodeau.
After waiting years to host athletes from all over the world in Vancouver, 2010 is finally here, and it is off to a great start.
Tragically, on opening day, an event occurred that changed the way we all thought the Olympics would begin. The unfortunate death of Georgian athlete Nodar Kumaritashvili during a trial run practice on the day of the opening ceremony was shocking. Countries gathered together and gave Georgia a standing ovation as they walked into the opening ceremonies.
“I like the Olympics because it brings our country and the world together,” said Monica Modestino, a grade 12 student at St. Thomas Aquinas. The Olympics are truly the one thing that everyone loves to watch. The suspense and the glory are infectious, and the ability to say “I won Gold for Canada” would truly be an honour.
The Olympics is something everyone looks to, with the hype and the excitement. We all gather in our living rooms, sit on the couch, and cheer for the athletes that represent our country. Another student at STA said, “I can not wait for more wins for Canada. I love watching the Olympics; I look forward to them every four years. I wish they were more often.”
I also find the athletes to be inspirational. I mean, who doesn’t want to ski after that amazing win by Alex Bilodeau? All of the talent makes me wish I was there at the Olympics, in the crowd, cheering for the athletes.
There are still many events to come, some being curling, and the anticipated hockey finals, and with 6 medals won for Canada already, I can feel more medals for Canada coming soon.

Wow. Whoever wrote this article is awesome.
